Referencing variables

I have a Movie clip within a Movie clip within a Movie clip and I can not figure out how to call upon a variable at level 0. I know that 1 inside is / and 2 inside is ../ but what about the next level? I'm not that friendly with DOS (since I know this is based after DOS) and I have tried some really whack stuff to no avail. I've tried .../ and ../../ but I can't figure it out. Can anyone help me out here?
