The only thing I can think of is maybe your hard drive is too full?

If you are using windows then it is possible that too many programs are opening on startup. Click on the window startup key, type msconfig into the search programs bar and it will open a pop up window, click on the 'startup' tab and see what programs are opening, disable ones that you don't want and then click apply and restart the computer. That should fix it.

if you have anti-virus software [and if not, you should] check if it is doing startup scans and let them run out to completion if it is - and if you haven't recently scanned your entire system for viruses etc do it now as that could be a cause

check [as gary said] if disk is full [> 80% usage] or needs defragmenting

edit: in the main for windows; if you are mac I would still say you should though others may disagree; if linux then you need to head out to a linux forum

Task manager can show you which programs are actively consuming CPU resources. You might like to show the running processes and the CPU they are using.

If you don't understand what you are seeing take a screengrab and post it here.

Press Print Screen, then open Xara and Paste the screen capture. Crop the image down to just the Task Manager screen. Export as a JPEG and then post it here.
