    Default Guide Layer Colors

You have no choice in terms of color for the guides on the guide layer until you first make a named color. You have to make named colors in order to choose from them.

I'd like to be able to choose the color of the guides based on the standard palette.

    Minor issue, but annoying nonetheless.

You can easily turn any of the standard palette colours into named colours. Open the colour gallery and near the bottom you'll see a standard palette folder expand that and you have a list of all the standard colours on the colourline. Double click the colour you want and it will be added to the colourline again as a named colour.

I know how to make named colors. I just think it's an unnecessary step in order to access them.
