Default Resource Thread on Open Source Projects and SourceForge Info and Tips

Editor Note: Moved from another thread. This thread is dedicated to links to information, tutorials and tips about open source projects and SourceForge and how to use it.

    Hi Grace,

What an kind offer! I can't help you with the programming, but I can offer a dedicated forum here that you could use for feedback, bug reports, coordinating the open source project.

Here is a good overview of the process. http://coding.smashingmagazine.com/2...ource-project/

Pick a licence - some are more flexible than others. http://www.smashingmagazine.com/2010...ilar-licenses/

Set up a repository at GitHub or SourceForge or the like. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Compar...ing_facilities

Set up a style or contributors guide outlining how code needs to be written, organized, formatted, etc.

Get contributors - and when you get them get them to sign releases on the code/artwork/documentation

Generally folks tend to go with GitHub for version control, and code submission. It is free if the project is publicly available.
It is my understanding that MIT or Apache open source licences give more flexibility than GPL ones.

Just say the word and I will set up the forums. I can also help setting up the github account and other non-programming paperwork-type stuff.
