Illustrating is often an exploratory event, trying graphic techniques
to see what works and what does not. Undoing undesirable results
and trying a new approach is common. This process may happen
multiple times in the same illustration.
As shown in the above graphic, effects obtained are dependent
on what tools are used and the order in which they are applied. And
it get even more complicated as other tools are used on the same object.
Once a complex piece is finished, it becomes impossible to duplicate
some of the desirable effects in other works because there is no
record of how the effects were obtained. It's not feasible to remember
all the creative paths used when developing a piece.
I suggest incorporating a History option into Xara so that any
effect can be duplicated from this record. Without such a tool many
useful effects become lost since there is no documentation on how
to reconstruct them.
