Good thing David. I was starting to worry you'd be needing new eyeballs!!

Ross said "Oh and here's another idea: You know those fuzzy dice * cool * folks hang from their car mirrors? - Well, how about a pair of shiny eyeballs? Even more cool eh?"

Or how bout a new design for balls on a pool table ... or a new bowling ball design :-D ... hehe

I figured if Klaus could post his ancient eyeball, I could post my Black Point Group company logo, the Eyebulb. However, once I looked at the file, I realized the threads on the bulb don't look very good. I made some intermediate corrections and as soon as I get the WebXealot posted (I'm supposed to be editing it now) I'll revisit the threads.

Here is a modification of the eyeball in the November 1996 tutorial.

Creating the iris and especially the blood vessels in the eyes is a lot easier now that Xara has stoked line shapes.

The original iris is made up of thousands of tiny fibers.

Fantastic contributions to this thread Gary! The lightbulb design continues to be inspiring. Please don't ever hesitate to post the "old stuff". Now that the old i/us pixels are no more, all the great images of the past need revival in these new threads. (I wonder if Xara Ltd. has thought of archiving the content of these threads?)

While your iris is built up of many fine lines, I used a different approach. I took a rectangle shape and subtracted a number of freeform shapes for a sort of swiss cheese effect. That holed shape was made quite transparent. Multiple clones that were re-coloured were placed behind with each being resized horizontally and some were flipped. The intent was to be able to see layered holes featuring complex colour effects. After creating the clones several times I selected the whole bunch and made a png w/ alpha bitmap copy. That rectangular bitmap was given eliptical transparency so that its sides faded out. It was turned into a brush and with tiling turned off, was applied to a circular line.

Eyeballs are fun to draw - everyone should try it!

Your approach is probably closer to reality. I have seen extreme close up photographs of irises and they are more like you described.

BTW I love the eyeball S&P shakers. If they haven't been done, you should patent them ASAP :-)

Not to criticize the artistic freedom, but you do know teardrops don't come from the eye itself but tear ducts?!

It was Salvador Dali's sliced eyeball without the blade :-)

Here is what you get when you coss the eyeball thread with Big Frank's Worms thread.

Many years ago I read a book where the main character was supposed to have amber coloured eyes. Using Ross's techique, I came up with an amber eye.
