More Windows 8 - homegroup

I just bought a new PC with Windows 8 and tried to have my Windows 7 join its "homegroup". I am trying to connect with the option that anyone on either computer can see stuff, the alternative being matching accounts on both PCs ( I don't want to have to do this). Anyone else tried this?

Go to the Metro page, the page with all the icons, and key in Homegroup, then select Settings. If you just start typing in this window it automatically launches the search function.

I remember trying to set up a home group with my wife's computer and needing a password or something. And since we both have our computers in the same room, I thought, why bother.

I got that far and typed in the password on the Win 7 machine, but I get that it cannot connect to the homegroup. It does see the Win 8 machine. I tried turning of my firewall to no avail. I just wondered if anyone had succeeded.

Yeah, I think I had a similar experience.

As a new Windows 8 user you are entitled to a certain period of free support. There is also a Windows forum which will probably have the answer.

I tried the suggestions to no avail. Then someone else mentioned teamveiwer - that work great and will serve my purpose.

Running the FixIt utility did not work. I got an error message, the troubleshooter is not available.
