First post and I have to say that image looks great. Can someone tell me what it means when he says no image or filter was used though? Does that mean it was done purely freehand with vectors?

Welcome to the forum, Micahdogg. If you have a look at the lower image in the original post, you will see it is a wire frame version, showing just the vector path outlines. So yes, it's all vector, with no raster (bitmap) plugin effects used.
