Unable to edit swf file

I'm sure I'm overlooking something very simple.
But I can't edit swf files. I just started creating animations and in fact I was able to edit them I think.
But now whenever I open a .swf file I get a placeholder file.

I created a simple animation last week in web designer 6.
Yesterday I opened and edited it in designer pro six.

Since then I only get placeholder.

I can open the design gallery flash samples.

Any suggestion

you wont be able to edit a swf file in xwd - if you do an animation you should save it as a .web file (file-save as) then you will be able to load it back in for editing and when your happy with it you can export it as a swf file to use in your website ..
