Have a look at this reply on a forum: http://www.t-shirtforums.com/graphic...lp/t44818.html
    Or Here: http://www.unleash.com/ronm/stencil/
Or Here for turning a photo into a mask: http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/cor...rpowerclip.htm

To be honest if I was using CD just to make an outline mask for a product from a bitmap I would use Corel Trace. Once the object has been traced I would expand the tracing and then ungroup the objects. Once ungrouped then you could delete the parts that you don't want and it would leave a mask that you could use. When you are more comfortable using the software then you could learn how to use either the Pen/Pencil Tool to mask over areas of bitmaps to build up your masks that you want as this is the most accurate way of creating as airbrushing mask. Also learn to use the help file that comes with CD to help you answer questions like this. Even better do a Google search it's easy.

If you are OK with using a mask when airbrushing you will understand about using transparent film. What would happen if you could print onto the film and then cut out the bit that you wanted to airbrush, well you can and you also can use paper as well and masking tape. I don't have Corel at the moment but when working in schools as a Graphic Design teacher I used to, so if I can remember, I will try and explain using links. The first one is using Power Trace along with Corel Paint which you would use to create as mask of just an outline: http://www.advancedartist.com/video/powertracetute.html

To create a bitmap mask or remove background colour have a look at this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PBtpo5TfrZo

To answer your question on a publication to use I have used none on CorelDraw but I have used the Wow book with Adobe Illustrator and it was great so have a look at this one. All of the Wow books come with a disc so that you don't need to draw everything if you are learning about patterns you just do the patterns saving a huge amount of time: http://www.amazon.com/The-CorelDraw-.../dp/0201886324
