I had a bit of trouble explaining how I did this to the security gaurd at work. I had to use my HTC Blackstone's camere to get the backdrop of Beetham's Tower and the Hulme Arch here in Manchester, England and use a photograph I did while seeing what I can do with my webcam. I first put the backdrop into Xara PGD7 for the sky and alien effects. But I pasted the backdrop into Paintshop Pro X5 to warp the background out of shape, put it into PGD7 and added the cropped ad edited photo of myself into the foreground and turned the eclipses into the ovals for eyes and used a font called Lovecraft's Diary (free to download) for marks on the skull and decided to use the snakes for a pair of horns.

Hi SB, Just a quick line to say that you can bend and twist photos in Xara.
Have your photo selected; go to live effects, deformation filter, liquid colour and from there you can bend, pull and push a photograph into any shape you want...
    Happy New Year.

It does look a bit Lovecraftian now you mention it. Shoggoth or Shub-Niggurath possibly?
