Just uploaded my first webpage using Xara 4 to http://www.globalphotosite.co.uk.

Worked great on my local machine, after 5hrs of headbanging. But not online.!!

I thought to post here in the forums as I can find nothing in the Xara help files in respect of uploading completed pages with inbuilt navigation to your server. Or in quickly rectifying problems.

The graphics are fine, just NO navbar.

Looking at the source files it would appear the java is looking at my documents folder for information on my hardrive.

    Any help appreciated,

As a Professional Photographer. I bought Xara to make creating webpages and navigation quicker and easier!

    Just for inf

I need the XARA NAVBAR on http://www.globalphotosite.co.uk to be rock solid!

When the update is complete it will be taking over from http://www.globalphotosite.org as a main portal entry to 10 sites. GPS handled 5.7 million hits last year on a site I built for 6 photographers http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif from 65 countries worldwide.

This year we expect over 15 million hits folks so I need to get this right first time.

Help support please, at this time would really be appreciated!

cant help you with your problem but this new site looks great nice smooth graphics on that page. nicely done. the home page is alot "cleaner" looking than the old. once again great job.

i can take a crack at your problem. if it is refrencing back to your hdd just edit the file to refer to the directory o your website and i would think you would be good to go.

it refrences your hdd since that is where the files were when you made the navbar. now that it is uploaded you need to go edit them or if your websoftware has it "update links"

    hope that helps some

Hi Mike, Thanks for your reply, appreciated.

I reworked the saved graphics in the index_files folder to match the online one. So all the graphics seem to be there.

In the java script above I changed the hardrive my documents ref to the online index_files folder where the xaramenu.js nav is but no joy with any permiation I tried.

I thought /index_files/xaramenu.js would do the trick same as all the other files called by index.html but alas no joy and back to the drawing board. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Wish there had been more to the XARA manual or a FAQ as I see many others seem to have had problems getting it working online and HEY thats what Xara webstyle is for isn't it!

No visitors to a site stuck on yer hard drive!

    regards,

    Chris

    1. Have you uploaded all the files associated with your navbar?. If your navbar has sub menus then there will be 2 javascript files. One named xaramenu.js and another bearing the same name as the set of graphics exported. There will be 2 graphics for each button upon your navbar along with an additional graphic.

    2. Is the folder in which you saved your graphics and JavaScript file(s), at the same location relative to the web page upon your web server, as the folder in which you saved your graphics and JavaScript file(s) is to your web page on your local drive?

Assume you save your navbar (the graphic files and javascript file(s)) in the same location as where your web page is saved.

However when you uploaded your web page and all associated files, you decide to place the files for the navbar in a separate folder to your web page named graphics. The navbar will not be displayed when viewing the web page. This is because the script references inserted in the web page are looking for the javascript files in the same directory as the web page and not in the graphics directory.

    maybe that will help

Your problem is Frontpage, or the Webstyle module for it, not Webstyle itself. When you do the uploads, it is converting your paths to absolute ones, not relative ones. That's why the path is trying to point back to your computer, instead of to a folder on the webserver. I have seen this problem a number of times. There is probably an option to change this, but I can't tell you how, since I don't use Frontpage, given that it's a poor web design program. It works better for managing intranets, hence the issue with absolute paths being some kind of default.

Switched to the Dreamweaver option, I use frontpage for quick site edits on the laptop in the field. Also disabled the server frontpage extensions. Looks like some files were missing from the first attempt.

Second one is fine, now I can get and and make the third one a final save with dreamweaver.

    many thanks,

HI If you enounter this type of problem again, the quickest way to resolve it is to delete the navbar in frontpage and re-insert it.

Go to http://xara.com/support/webstyle/ enter re-insert wihtin the keyword field and submit the form
