How do I insert HTML code onto my pages?

I went to Placeholder and then clicked on the Placeholder Tab, but all the options in that window are grayed-out.
What do I do now?

You need an object to "hold" the placeholder. Just make a rectangle off the page, select it, then you should see the placeholder form.
