    Great drawing, Sammy.

I think I had one of those!
Actually. I remember the one my uncle had, back in India. As a youngster, I just loved playing with it.
It had a curved glass tube on the front. It was about the thickness of an ordinary pen and it was about 3 inches long.
This tube had some sort of bright green stuff inside it.
When you were tuning into various stations, the green stuff would grow longer, the better the signal was.
Turning the tuning knob, this way and that. I used to have lots of fun, trying to get this green stuff to be as long as possible, to fill the tube as much as possible!

Nicely done, Sammy. I like that tuning dial.

Rik, Gary and Gray thanks a lot for your comments

Rik, it was interesting to read your memories of having the old type radio in your family. We used to have one in our family as well, handed down over the generations These things were real items of beauty. They to come to life with a gentle humming sound, as you switched it on, and the tuning dial window glowed with a soft reassuring light. I had carried out a bit of vandalism to its authenticity by fitting some modern day sound input/output connectors and speaker output, and used it as an amplifier for my sound system. The sound quality was absolutely brilliant from the valve amplifier. It was finally retired when the valves started to fail and I couldn't get any replacements Gave it to a radio collector enthusiast, I think it found a good home

    Sammy
