DPI settings should have no effect on the on-screen display, as long as all your units of size are done in pixels (apart from fonts)

Are you setting the export image dimensions in the Export Dialog box?
Set these dimensions to the exact size you want the final image to be.
Does your image look to be a different size in the Xara interface or the Browser Preview of the Export Dialog box? I have found the Browser Preview to be very accurate sizewise.

Why, I’m afraid I can’t explain myself, sir, because I’m not myself, you know...

uses 72dpi as its default display resolution.
The 100% and 1:1 in the export dialog are a bit misleading and only represent the size of the image in the preview window.
However, 1:1 does represent just that, one pixel at 96dpi (or 96 pixels per inch).
If you zoom into the preview and then press 100%, the preview zooms out to 1:1 at the area where you were zoomed.
If you press 1:1, the preview centers on the image at 1:1. So if you were zoomed into the top of a tall rectangle and then pressed 100%, the preview will move in or out to 100% or 1:1. If you press 1:1, the preview will zoom back to 1:1 and center on the center of the tall rectangle.

Try this -
You are workig in Xara (96dpi) and importing into Fireworks (72dpi). Go to Utilities - Options - scaling and set the scale factor to drawing 96 and real world 72. Export your drawing and see if it looks right in Fireworks. I've only used this for Flash, but the principle should be the same.

As Mickie say's this is what we've been suspecting all along! IT IS THE WINDOWS / MAC RESOLUTION ISSUE. It's not a fault of Xara but a problem being caused by Mac software ported across to the windows platform without altering the dpi resolution to match the Windows enviroment. Macromedia Fireworks does exactly the same as Macromedia Flash.
To test this, a quick method is to select your image in XaraX, set the scaling from 100% to 133.33% and then export. Hit the undo button so the XaraX image reverts back to it's original size. Now when you import the image into Fireworks it will match the Xara image exactly if you view them both on screen side by side.

As Gary said earlier you can use the xara template which eradicates this. I have attached it to this message. If you download the file and do a FILE/ SAVE TEMPLATE. Then whenever you want to create equal sized images in XaraX and Fireworks, Open Xara Select FILE / NEW and click on the MacromediaScaling template. You can then import photographs or create shapes that will import at the same physical size into Fireworks.

whew...glad we got that figured out. Now we hope to see some of your images here...if you are so inclined.

Have you checked the voltage of your main supply -perhaps you are on low voltage - which could result smaller pictures.

That's a bug they aim to fix in the Corel Xara X Super Pack Multi-DVD extra bloat edition to be released next April 1st.
