rhdpre07, without sight of your design, the most common thing I have found that slows down large sites is the Repeat on All Pages for a NavBar. It got so bad that I had to copy the NavBar, delete the original NavBar from all pages, make the required changes and then put the NavBar back in place. Even when changing a small amount of text, the Link > Link to box would flicker away for a time even if no links were in play.
