Default adjusting the line movement in a line drawing

I am relatively new to Xara and want to use it primarily for drawing patterns for my work. After tracing a shape with the lined tool I was trying to move a portion of a curve but the line would jump a great deal more that I wanted it to.I tried to adjust the amount of movement by going in to the utilities and resetting the mouse but it didn't seem to help. I know there is someone out there that can tell me what is going on and get me on the right track.

Make sure that 'Snap to Grid' is not ticked.
    That might help?!
