Are you sure you using a "guide layer" ?
If you have the ruler showing, you can right click over the ruller and this set's up a guide layer. You can then click on the ruler to add guides or move your mouse over the ruler and it changes to the highlighted shape so you can move it.
It's a tool I don't use very often but I do find it accurate.

Hi Egg,

Thanks, but I've tried all this. All I can think is that it must be some obscure fight between Xara X and my hardware!

Having said that I can alter them by highlighting one listed in the layers properties, clicking properties and typing a new postion in. It works, but its not quite what I had in mind.

Finally, thanks to everyone else that has offered help, it's much appreciated!

I know this is an old thread but I am having the exact same problem!

I used to be able to drag and drop my guidelines but apparently something has changed. If I move the mouse over a guide, it no longer changes the mouse arrow so I can move it
( something like <-|-> )

I've gone through every setting that I can find and haven't been able to track it down. No hardware changes on my system but I'm sure I've installed new software at some point. Maybe a DLL problem?
