Problem updating Xara Designer Pro X after restore

I have just restored my win7 home from an Acronis true image home 10 backup

Xara Designer Pro X would not install the latest update to 8.1.2.23228

It is registed and activated, but it still asked for the key again after which it reported already registered, and then there was the message as attached at which point the update went no further - 'close' closed it, 'ignore' left it hanging

would this have anything to do with a previous installation of Xara photo and graphic designer 7 which was uninstalled

is it a registry issue, a problem with Ma Jinx's activation process, my system... or what?

every time the program is opened it now says the update is availlable, but it never works...

update:

going back to an image prior to installing XPGD7 works

that's what I shall do, and rebuild

...on the basis that I'm not the only person [I'm sure] to have moved from xpgd7 to xdpx, did a bit more digging around and it looks like adding a SATA drive and repartioning existing disks was a factor.... the likes of me wouldn't call that a significant hardware change, but there we go.. hasn't affected Win7 or Adobe or anything else so it's all a bit maybe, maybe not...

anyway off to do a clean build....must be 9 months since the last one

Steve the error message you attached to post one indicates the downloaded up was corrupt. Windows did not recognize the download as a Windows application and attempted to run it as a DOS App.

Removing the downloaded update file from you Documents/MAGIX downloads folder should allow the update to download again and hopefully not corrupted.

well I tried it Bill, but it still didn't work properly, so I ended up rebuilding from a couple of increments back
