Default Jagged lines after applying effect in AI

I am learning ai using a tutorial to create this image. When I apply an effect, (effect> effect gallery> texturizer) I get lines which are not vertical jagged. However, when I apply the same effect in PS, the objects look great. Just in AI, I get these jagged lines. Is are a settings I need to apply before applying the effect in AI?

    Welcome to the forum.

I don't know what tutorial you are following, but for the effect you are going for, you likely need to rasterize the elements. So What I would do is to select everything, hold the ALT key down and drag a copy to the pasteboard. Now go back to the artboard and select everything on it again. Go to the object menu and select to rasterize it.

Now load the effect gallery. Load your texture and apply it again. It should be smooth. I loaded your PDF, removed the texture effect and did what I wrote above. Here's a 400% zoomed in version.

Do make sure to make that copy so you can alter the vector should you need to, though.

    Take care, Mike

Thank you for the reply. I followed your instruction; however, I get the same result after I rasterized it. Applying the effect after, produces the same.

I selected everything (4 layers), nav to object and rasterize. Accepted the default settings.

I am using CS6 version if that makes a difference. I even try with the same pdf file I uploaded and I get the same result.

Can you ZIP your AI file and post it--along with the pattern?

Still cannot reproduce the jagged lines with the exception of performing the effect on vector.

The following three screen shots had the filter applied to the rasterized copy, which was done at 300 dpi.

The next one I did the rasterization at 96 dpi and was exported from AI

I am using 5.1. Don't know when I will upgrade AI to CS6. But I have not heard any reports of such problems on the Adobe forums with CS6--and they should be surfacing by now if so. I don't know what to tell you at this point.

    Take care, Mike

Thanks for the help. I don't know what is going on. Perhaps it's me missing a step. Seems straight forward though.

Why not drag & drop into PS if you have problems and do it in PS.

    albacore:

It may as well be the case since I don't know what's causing it.
