    Default Bug with Shape Builder

    Using Designer Pro MX 8.1.0.22207

When two shapes made with the new Shape Builder tool are added (arrange-> combine shapes-> add shapes), the resulting shape has an insanely high number of nodes. Also, it results in an open shape in a group in a group, instead of a closed shape.

Please fix, it's a really useful tool!

The shape builder and eraser do tend to create shapes with lots of control points but we are not aware of any issues when combining them. Can you post an example of this saved just before you do the "Add shapes" and saved again just after and explain which shapes you consider to have the "insanely high number of nodes"?

    Thanks,
    Gerry

Try to combine the black and orange shapes on the left. I suspect it only happens with overlapping shapes.

The result is a shape in a group in a group, part of which turned light gray and part of which is not filled at all.

your default outline is set to tacks and this seems to be causing the problem for reasons Gerry can hopefully explain - reset outline to normal should be ok?

seems to work for me: click on the lower object and give it an outline - you will see it is tacks - reset it to normal line - remove the outline - should now combine ok with other shape

It's still strange behaviour. When I create a new document, and make two shapes, one with tacks (thickness none) and one with a normal outline (thickness none), they still combine to a shape in a group in a group. This time, the result is light gray (I used black and green shapes), and the shape with the tacks outline is now transformed into a (shape of a) row of big tacks (light gray).

be something to do with the nature of the 'tack' outline I would think, which is a custom brush made from a graphic of 5 seperate groups, probably a complicated process going on

I can reproduce the bug. It looks very odd and I can't immediately explain why it does that so I've added it to our bug tracking system.

    Thanks,

Dear Xara thanks for the great tool, but please add some functionality for it.
Please add some option or button for disabling nodes on active shape,
its realy hard to see whats behind all these clouds of nodes, specially when drawing with pressure.
