In this way the picture will get an 'alt" name, but the image keeps the number (1.jpg). The problem with this is that the "alt"name is not found in a search command, I tried this extensively

    Not at all.
The method described above will name the image on export to the name you define in the syntax.

    Example:

In the names dialogue if you choose to enter: filename="Toyota-Sprinter" the photo will be exported as Toyota-Sprinter.jpg

Name:	names.jpg
Views:	311
Size:	18.6 KB
ID:	89046

Note that vector shapes and drawings or photographs with added attributes such as a drop shadow, will be exported as .png
You can override this in the image tab of Web Properties.

Actually, if you want to put alt text onto your images you do the following : right click image, a menu will open, choose Web Properties, choose Images and then write your SE friendly description in the Image Caption (Alt Text) section. You can also just click on the LINK image (looks like a chain) and it will also open the web properties box, then just choose Images etc. When you publish the site, if you right click on the image it will come up with the alt text, and this is the text that the google spiders will find when crawling your site.
