Unhappy Re: Web Designer MX (v8) Just Launched

I agree too. I have only been on the bandwagon since Xara Extreme 5.... but everytime I just about figure everything out on the newest version, another version comes out with some (usually just 1) cool thing I just don't think I can live without. I also made the common mistake of thinking I needed both the web designer AND graphic designer, not realizing at first that pro covered it all. Therefore I ended up with both products through ver 5 & 6.

Under file/page options, the only page size options are web page sizes and you can't change units to inches if you want. I really like the bullet/list features and the object positioning, but am not sure those are worth loosing some of the other things. I use export to pdf alot.
This sounds like you are using Designer Pro or Photo & Graphic Designer.

Web Designer and Web Designer Premium have never exported to PDF, or had an option to change the units within the program.

Sorry Pete I hate to disagree but WD7P supports export to PDF.

Ok, now I am even more confused. I thought what I was looking at in Web Designer MX Premium was the upgrade to Designer Pro 7. So does this mean Xara will soon come out with a new program that includes features of both the Web Designer & Graphic Designer as they did with ver 7? Should I wait?

Web Designer is always released first then a few months later the new Designer Pro is released that contains all the new features of the Web Designer version plus updates to Designer Pro.

Just remember if the word Web is any part of the application's name it is not the same as or any upgrade to the Professional level application.

Got a problem when publishing, keep getting "Internal program error 58.w.fi.nd" , after clicking "ok" it still publishes. Wierd

As a Xara user for 8 some years I've been looking forward to every upgrade and I always feel I'm getting away with a steal when I can upgrade for under $50! I do small to medium size websites and with the speed I can create a website the $50 is made up in a few hours.

Thanks to Gary for a great article on the new features. I upgraded half way through :-)

I think you'll find that the PDF export filter is being picked up from your Designer Pro 7 installation, Bill. WD7p doesn't have it's own PDF exporter.

There's no PDF export entry in MX Premium.
