    Info Internet Explorer 9 Issues with Xara Websites

    I've been experiencing a number of different issues with IE9 during the development of a client's site recently. One item, specifically, was that my drop-down sub menus were showing a shifted right border. It's only noticeable with a border enabled, and only in IE9 that I was able to test. It works properly in Chrome and Firefox. The fix for this unusual behavior (and others) was to include the following in the <head> section of your site:

    <meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=8" >

    This forces IE8 rendering in Internet Explorer and returns many expected defaults to the browser. It's as good a work-around as any until Xara comes out with the next version to update this styling.

    I use:
    Windows 7, 64-bit
    Internet Explorer 9
    Firefox 10 (beta)
    Chrome 16 (beta)
    Xara Designer Pro 6

    wouldn't you agree that this is the fault of the browser rather than xara?

    The user doesn't care whose fault it is, nor does a designer using a WYSIWYG tool care - they expect their design to work. In fairness, you can't expect Xara to guarantee support for future versions of browsers.

    I suspect that IE 9 is behaving more similarly now to other browsers, while before, it would have a differrent interpretation of the CSS standards. Typically developers and WYSIWYG tool designers build in specific behaviours to get around the quirks of particular browsers. I guess Xara may add some new behaviour for IE 9 in an update in the future.

    How does one do that exactly in Xara?

    Perhaps not, but I am having a similar problem. I have Xara Web Designer MX Premium and the page transition I am using works for all browsers EXCEPT Internet Explorer. I am trying to figure out why. I am using a slide from below, but the slide doesn't work at all. Would you have any idea why?

    This is not the answer to your question lori but I avoid the page transitions altogether.

    Unless you are doing a web or monitor based Presentation.

    Transitions are especially onerous on long pages with lots of content.

    I'm with Gary on this. I avoid transitions, they currently create more problems than they're worth.
