I'm just using the Painter 5 demo and have two image floaters. One is above the other and I want to erase parts of it to be transparent. I am using the eraser tool and its various settings but the erased parts only show up as another colour and don't make the erased parts show the object underneath. I'm used to the object eraser tool in PhotoImpact where I can erase or make translucent parts of image objects. Is there some way to do this in Painter 5

I bought an unopened Painter 6 in the can from a guy in Ontario on Ebay (I think he must have bought a whole bunch of these from Corel or something at next to cost). It should be arriving soon so if there's a way in Painter 6 to solve my above question , maybe that would be helpful to know.

Select the layer it is on.

Open the mask and activate the mask of the object by clicking on it.

    Disable preserve transparency.

Now either use the eraser or a brush with white as the color selected.

    David,

There is no "Preserve Transparency" option in Painter 5.

There's a tutorial on my website that explains how to do this. Use the link below and click the top left link icon to go to my Tutorials section. The look for the tutorial named "'Erasing' on a Transparent Layer - (Transparent Layer Masks)". It works the same for a Floater in Painter 5 and 5.5 or a Layer in Painter 6:

Good luck, and if you have any questions, let me know.

    David,

Great! It's good to hear you figured it out and got it to work.

If you're going to check things out on my site, there are a whole lot of tutorials not only in the Tutorials section but also in the Fun with Brush Strokes, Character Matters, and Effects sections you can use in Painter 6.

    Have fun!
