Red face Button mouse over color

Hello, Ive been using with web designer 7

I made a button using the rectangle tool. How can i make the color of the button when
a person moves the cursor over it?

I dont have menu maker or navbars in my gallery. it says i have to download it. Never purchased it though.

So can i make my own buttons?

Come on guys don't leave me hanging here.

I tried using the pop up layer thing for this but everytime i try to make a new layer so it will appear different when people mouse over the buttons it will change the button on the original page. So im getting no where with it.

Please help. Ive been pathetically fighting with this for a month and a half.

You will need 2 version of your button. One on the mouseoff layer and one on the mouseover layer. they will need to be assigned a link url and should overlap each other for them to work.

Group the text and the rectangle or button shape and copy it to the clipboard (Edit > Copy)

In the Page and Layer Gallery, select the MouseOver layer, and paste in place (Edit > Paste in Place).

    Modify the button colors.

Select the MouseOff layer. Drag a selection rectangle around both buttons with the Selector Tool.

From the Arrange menu, select Apply Softgroup.

Select the Link tool on the Infobar and in the URL key in a #. This will let you preview the button. It loads the same page.

Suggest you take a few moments and read the Basics of Web Design Workbook.

The tutorial tells me to drag a selector around the button, but i cant cause it moves another object behind it.
So I read the tutorial in web designer and it gave me this:

If you have an object in the way which is preventing you from drawing a rectangle because you end up moving the object, hold down "" while dragging out the selection rectangle.

    Extend Selection

What is it telling me to hold down. Ive never seen this key before and my pc doesnt have one. I tried other methods but i cant seem to figure out if it worked.
Selecting a button with another one under it isn't easy

Ok, It all worked out.everything works.

But really weird. The home link on the home page stays as a visited mouseover button
instead of its original form as soon as you visit the site.

Any one know how to show it as its original form to match the other buttons?

That's the current page auto highlighter.

From the "Undocumented and advanced features" thread

    6. If you want to disable automatic highlighting of the link to current page, add the "NoAutoHighlight" name to the object.
