Nav Bars: Colors

I have spent so much time just trying to change the color of the text in my nav. bar. All I can see is the color of the buttons but no text - it is "hidden". Don't understand what menu background (over) and menu text (over) is.

Would also like to change the boring look of the buttons but first things first.

Highlight the text with the Text Tool.

The text and the button shape are grouped. So if you change the color for one it changes for the other.

Hold down the Ctrl key and click to select just the button shape. Actually you can also do this with the text.
