These things seem to be everywhere.
Our own Gary has one in his signature.
Seems that all sorts of companies are using them for all sorts of purposes.

Abusing them for all sorts of purposes, you mean.
Saw an ad recently saying to scan it to downoad an app. And if you don't have a QR code scanner to... erm... download an app!
And scaned a recent TV ad, only to be taken to an online version of that same ad.
Sadly being abused by piss-poor imagination-free marketers.
I'd start a revolution, if I could get up in the morning.
Apparently, these Quick Reference (QR) Codes started off by being used in car manufacturing, because they are very quick to read and a lot of information can be stored.
But, now... well, they're everywhere.
What prompted my post was that today I saw them in a supermarket, on the price tags.

They were indeed first used by Toyota to make it easier to track stock. I believe that IBM (?) have an alternate system. We are using them on our adverts to give people who scan them a discount, and I have to say that at the moment at least very few people (less than 1% of those contact us) have scanned the code. I have seen them used by other firms and tend to scan them out of curiosity.
I think it will be a while for it to take off - for smaller firms to use them at least, perhaps if the app came installed with the phones and were pushed more by the phone companies - one advert from apple would probably do it.
Antony - These codes, like the early Internet, are evolving. Your example of scanning an ad to see the same ad is like the websites where you click on the image to see a larger image and then see the same image in a pop up.
I bet in a year it will be a totally different ball game.

They're also quite resilient to damage, which is good for the stock control process. And you don't have to pay a barcode body to get numbers.
I'd start a revolution, if I could get up in the morning.
QR code is used in many fields of today's society, it can carry whatever required information, I think QR code will be developed more powerful.
Hi,
I had a obsession with them for awhile...created all sorts...I even incorporated them i videos and they worked linking to the Video editors home page.
I incorporate one on a business card giving my list of medication I am on for paramedics in case of emergency. (just hope they have qr reader on the Ambulance or there phone).
