    Default uv unwrapping problem

Ok I have a model of a fancy cup that I spun from a spline drawn in Xara and then some added sculpting to add a bit more detail. After trying the easy way to map my image to it didn't yield the results I wanted I decided to unwrap it but strangely when I try to load my image into the uv editor it doesn't display and when I mark the seam and ctrl+u>unwrap the unwrapped model doesn't appear in the uv editor either

    Hello Frances,

When you go to do the unwrapping, are you in Edit mode with all the faces selected?

    Can you send the Blendfile?

I had my windows split with edit mode on one side and the uv editor on the other side, and I selected the edge to mark the seam. I attached the packed blend file, the cup isn't finished I haven't done the handle yet. For the time being I have things rotated so the image looks like it is mapping a little better. The image I'm using is not the best image but trying to find a flat image of the china pattern proved more difficult than I thought.

    Hello Frances,

I wouldn't unwrap that object. It is symmetrical so would use a TUBE wrapping, but after having made the wrapping texture into a strip of flowers.

Using the Size and Offset numbers in the Texture mapping section will help you in positioning it just right.

I tried that method using a strip of blue stars that I made in Xara. Below is how it looks... For yours, you could make a strip, alternating between large flowers and small flowers to get the effect it seems you were after.

It did help some, Thanks James. I'll be posting the finished piece hopefully in a few days time.
