    Default What is this?

Out and about, and we saw this.

I've never really seen anything like this.

The black looking things are about 2.5cm or about 1" in diameter.
    Around about that size.

    What on earth are they?

They look like rose hips to me, rose hips are generally red or orange but some species can have hips that range from purple to black. WIKI

Not dingle-berries either. Actually I think Frances may be spot on.
Judging from the color I'd say they are "blue"berries.

I know, lets ask Mr. Click image for larger version.

I think these are sloe berries, but make sure they are before you flavour your gin with them.

This time he will have to bow to the superior knowledge of the other TG members.

I think that Frances definitely has the answer.

ID:	84525 checked the link from Frances and the similarities seem to indicate that these may well be Rose Hip.

While rose hips are edible and actually high in vitamin C they wouldn't make a good pie. They do however make a nice jelly.

Rik I had not seen black rose hips before but the article in this link http://www.atomicshrimp.com/st/content/rose_hips/ indicates they are very good.
