Frances you need to buy the blender plugin "renderInRealLife". It's currently available for US$ 1,000,000,00. If you wish to purchase, I can supply details for payment... ;-)

You really are having fun with Blender!

    Wow, Frances

That looks really nice and unaffordable. (or at least that's what I'm telling the Wife if she gets any Christmas ideas from your picture)

You are really working at Blender and it shows. That's a very respectable diamond!

    Peace

    James

Thanks, James and Paul. I showed this to my husband and he just said "No"

I learned a little about lighting and modeling gemstones from a video I found on you tube and from that video I learned a handy little technique of aligning the current camera to view. It's in the view menu (ctrl alt numpad 0)

There are 3 parts to the video that go through the steps from modeling the gem from scratch right up to a finished scene. I have the first one here, there are links on the you tube page to the other two. I modeled my stone as a round stone rather than an emerald cut, but I still found the videos very informative.

Edit: Here is a list of 5 videos in the series (yay two more for me to watch later!)
