    Default Blender selecting

I'm pretty much getting the hang of selecting things in blender, but what I'm not sure of is this. I have one complete object in my scene and I am creating another object in my scene. Is there an easy way to select a whole object (the one I'm currently working on) in edit mode with out selecting the other object(s) in my scene?

Frances you can right click the object within the 3D View or you can left click the object's name in the Outliner.

Glad I could help. Watching a couple of the video tutorials paid off.

Another thing that comes in really handy and quite often is the shortcut "L"

If you are making a complex object, let's say a set of weightlifting barbells and you've made a skinny, stretched cylinder for the bar and some other rounded shaped cylinders for the weights themselves and you need to select the bar. (remember, they're all part of ONE object in this example) Moving the mouse over the bar (in edit mode) and pressing "L" will select the bar, but not the other parts of it. Likewise you could select each of the weights using the same technique. Additional parts selected this way don't replace the selection, they add to the selection.

I use this one all the time, and it saves a lot of spinning things around to get all the parts selected.

    Peace

James, how do you get objects like the bar and the weights to become part of a single object ?

    Hello Guy,

There are two easy ways to do that.

The first is to pull the pieces in while you are in Edit mode. As long as you're editing one object, then adding primatives, other objects, etc., makes them also become part of the currently edited object.

The second way is just to select all the ones that you want to be ONE object and choose "Join".

    Hope this helps!

    Glad to help, Guy

Here's another good texture resource (for using in Blender or Xara)

    Enjoy!
