Thanks Mike, knowing me I would drill through my own hand using one of those.

I can see why the Z axis would be used for vertical (up/down) because the traditional 2D (X and Y) layout being flat on a table/surface so the 3D would build up from the surface. I've often suspected my brain is not wired the same as many other people.
