Creating "homemade" buttons for navbars

I look at this software and it is great, but cannot find step by step tutorial of making own buttons and using later in navbars.
So I dont wont to use templates, I print whole tutorial ( over 500 pages) but there was so little explanation of making own butons and 99% using buttons from templates.
I dont wont that.
Has anybody some good link for tutorial "Making buttons from scratch"?
