If you are looking for a free 3D program you might want to check out Blender: www.blender.nl
Amapi has a free version of thier software (V4 I think) you might do a web search for Amapi V4 and see what pops up.

...then perhaps one of these?
A "Photoshop-like", paint program:Paint Shop Pro
(free fully functional 30 day trial)
A FREE (totally, not a demo) image creation, paint, and photo editing program:
Image Forge
A free Vector graphics program: (like Illustrator, Xara, CorelDraw, etc.)
Design Factory
NOTE: this looks very cool for a free program!
Go here and see if you can find other apps.
I only looked through a few of the list:
Simtel.net - Freeware apps
Another pretty good 3D app is Strata 3D, and can be downloaded from http://www.strata.com/

Hi Shorty Thug--
Perhaps the best way to make 3D stuff is not to create the models at all, but instead to use pre-existing models, light and texture and then render them. KPT 6 has a module called Scene Builder, and comes with 212 royalty-free models, and will also import 3D Studio Max models, I believe. That should get you a good start adding 3D to your site.
You only need a host for this $150 Mac/Windows plug-in from Corel. PaintShop Pro would be a cheap host program.
Here's and example of Scene Builder's work. I did the sky in KPT 6 Sky Effects, formerly a whole program vended by a third party, Rayflect.

Shorty--
I did this image a lonmg time ago in Adobe Dimensions> It's $150 Mac or Windows, and the ONLY thing I dsid to enhance the scene outside of Dimensions is add the spotlight, wallpaper, and wood in Photoshop...and that required zero brain strain. The label and pips in the apple were all surface mapped in dimensions from Illustrator (ai type) lettering, and XARA does ai files very well in case you're a Win user.
