Object properties Trying to create a consistent look and feel

I have 8 boxes all derived from the same template, each box is a group made up of a photo, a box, a little arrow and a couple of words of text. As far as I can tell there are no mouse over actions set and all the text properties are identical. However, when the site is previewed some of the text and little arrows are grey, some black, some blue. When the mouse is over each object some change colour and some don't. How do I create a consistent look and feel?

Addendum: I think the issue lies within using layers and soft groups, which seem to differ from each box. I'm in the process of wading through help to work this out. At the moment it seems some text attributes change on all layers and some on only one, getting there slowly.
