My personal website, ready for redesign

This is my own website, I made mostly to get some experience about what it takes to get it up and running. It is created in V5 of Xara Extreme.

As I now acquired XDP7, I plan to completely redo it, so any remark, criticism or suggestion is welcome.

Please remember that you asked for opinions!

I would not have the round buttons that you need to click on to go to another page.
I was confused with that.
I expected to be able to click on the menu item (the words) and go to that page.

Most web sites I visit, tend to have the menus along the top.
You don't have to do that, but it does leave the width of your web page for the topic.

Also, I would completely change the look.
Whilst I do not use Xara for any web designing, I have seem many fantastic templates.
Just use one of those as a starting point for the design, look and feel.

Colours tend to be personal, but again, look at the Xara templates for a colour scheme to suit your web site.

Maybe only my opinion, but it's an opinion all the same!

Thanks for taking the time Rik. I certainly will take your advice into account when restarting my design.
