Thank you. I don't own Xara 3D. Is there a significant difference with the 3D tool of XTreme ? (I thought it was Xara 3D imported in Xtreme !)

    Hello stephane_fr,

There is some overlap of functionality. To me, it is as if Xara Designer has a lite version of Xara 3D built in. For some more advanced 3D things, like animation for one obvious example, Xara 3D works better/more quickly.

It has been discussed here before, but Xara 3D is really more of a titler than a true 3D package. (anyone who doesn't agree, show me please a sphere, a cube, and a regular pyramid simultaneously with their centers at different depths) Still, you can get some cool effects out of it. Anas made a wooden train model with it that was incredible.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I think Xara and Blender make an excellent tag-team.

    Re: Not owning Xara 3D

I think you can download a trial copy and compare features and inter-usability yourself. It IS a program with a high fun-factor!

    Peace

    Thank you very much again.

I think then I'll download and try it to see the results.

About "complementary" : I was thinking that it is generaly possible to use Xara for vector works, to import them into a 3D soft to use it. Anyway that's not a current way to work in 3D softs I guess
I do it all the time.

from what I have seen of his work in the past he would have little trouble in creating that sort of effect in xara, though that's not to say it was or that it was done in 20 minutes
    Hi, guys.

    Regarding this image: http://xaraxtv.at.tut.by/newgal/07.jpg

I've done this image because I was curious: can be gradients in photo-realistic images reproduced by Xara's set of gradient types. The second challenge was to use the minimum number of objects.

So, I rendered 3D model using photo-realistic renderer and then reproduced rendered image using Xara.
(if I'm not mistaken I used 11 objects)

I posted .xar file to give other users an idea how to use gradients to achieve photo-realistic look. Glad it helped

I also suggest you to watch videos from http://iconka.com/articles/
    Regards, Dmitry.
