I haven't used XARA in a while, but why change something that was with the program since day 1? Maybe I won't like the version 7 trial, but I will give it a try.

    Things change, it's called evolution.
If you don't like it you didn't evolve fast enough.

Well. I've given the shape editor a spin and..... It is pretty good once you get the hang. I haven't needed to put the pen tool back.

Evolution isn't always for the better, as in this case. The pen tool is a much more elegant way to work or we would all have evolved over to the shape editor tool before now. Yes, you can get by with the shape editor but why make do with second best?

actually the freehand tool is the only real, natural and elegant way to draw - the others are mechanistic shortcuts

Preference FlyoutBars->ShowPenToolOnFlyout added with rev. #17337 which can be switched on to add the Pen tool to the flyout bar.

It would be nice if the flyout bars could be edited to add items (not currently possible) I've added an BZ#8980 to log this enhancement.

This why I love joining the forums of the software apps I use the most. I too am usually in the state of confusion, I pay taxes to the same. Anyways, I see that the flyout doesn't have the pen tool any longer. AND the Control Bar feature is a great way to Customize XDP7 to your liking. But, (always a but) I tried to Alt+Drag the pen tool to the flyout ... that didn't work. I was able to place it on the Tool Palette as one of the main buttons. And it stays there on the Tools Palette when you exit and reopen the App. BUT (there it is again) when I select it, there is NO properties on the info bar (it is simply blank). I tried to Alt+drag it to the flyout but no luck. Then from the Tool Bar I tried to Alt+drag it to the flyout, and WOW there it is. Nope, when the flyout closes, then you open it again the pen tool has disappeared again. And I tried shift+F5 and that never worked.

I guess the users of older versions are going to have to learn more about the Shape Editing Tool.
