Not sure this is what you want.... But as you may know there are several photo galleries in the Design Gallery that work well... also if you type Photo gallery in the help seach tab you will be presented with much in depth info on the use of the photo galleries and their many components

There are several gallery templates and there's a Cloud Gallery widget which allows you to have very compact yet fully functional gallery easily.
