Richard, thanks for putting this together for us. I've been gone for several months, and it would take me forever to dig out all the great stuff I've missed. Thanks again!

On behalf of my fellow Xara X newbies ... I applaud your generosity and unselfishness. This forum is a unique and wonderful resource for those of us looking to sharpen our talents. I appreciate the comaraderie and the genuine fellowship of artists (or would be artists like myself) from around the globe. Keep up the good work!

Hi and thanks for the compliments. Hey most of those tutorials are by other fellow Xaraians, not me. I just provided a way to get them in one big file!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Anyway, the link has expired and I reuploaded it to a new location on my Earthlink sever, sorry for any inconvenience!! Here is the new location:

    Illustrated Tutorials for XaraX

The file is a doozy, it's a whopping 9.35 Mb's, http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/eek.gif just so you know!!

Have fun and LEARN ALOT! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Thanks for reposting and sharing. I'm in the process of re-downloading again as I write. Even on a DSL connection, it does take a while to come in, and I lost it at about the 80% mark last time. (Don't 'cha just HATE that!) http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I've gone back to a plain-text signature block again. Hated how that HTML one ended up all over the map. Still trying to figure out how to add a forum into the 'subscription' bit. Do you subscribe to threads, or forums as a whole? (I'd prefer the later!) Trying to get over here at least once a week.

BTW, has anyone every posted a mini-tutorial on border effects? Or, that's what I'd call it. I know I figured it out from something here, but it was so long ago I don't remember what or who posted it. (Gary maybe?)

At any rate, what you do is draw your shape (rectangle, circle, whatever) in the size you want the finished item to be. Clone it, and make it a bit smaller. Apply your favorite brush to the smaller shape. Tweak it around until you're happy with how that looks. Then, bring the original shape to the front, or move the shape with brush to the back. Change the shape with brush to editable shapes, and group. Then, chop off the outside brush stuff by selecting all, and then combining using the slice. Delete the outside stuff. You end up with a shape in the desired size filled with your 'border' effect. Fast, and very elegant. Did I explain this well enough, or should I draw a diagram?

Your most welcome with the repost. I tend to not think sometimes and when I deleted my old galleries and replaced them I plumb forgot that I had uploaded the .zip file to the XaraX gallery folder. What can I say, senior moment!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif

As for the border, why don't you do a nice little visual tutorial on how you did this. Then post it here and next update for the tuts zip I'll put it in there!! http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

My way of doing a border is to create my basic shape that the rest of the image is going to live within and the do a bevel on it (whether it's a rectangle or circle shape or whatever your little heart desires http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif) and then go up to the Convert to Editable Shapes and then Ungroup and then you can bevel that newly created shape and fill it with what ever you like. One of the reasons I would LOVE to see a Magic Wand tool added into Xara is if you do want to airbrush or one of those other line tools you can and stay within the borders of the object. RealDraw-Pro has a way around this but the program is not QUITE as sophisticated as XaraX is in many way.

Maybe I am not understanding where you are coming from on the 'border' idea, so yes, do make a visual tutorial and share it with us, won't you? http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

    Many thanks!

    Thank you, Richard

This is brilliant. I get so little chance these days to surf the Web for my own pleasure and download interesting stuff like the tutes. Thanks again. http://www.talkgraphics.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
