scrollbars in xara wd6

Hi there

I'm relatively new to xara, but all seems fine except I'm struggling with scrollbars. I've attempted a few times to post code into html placeholder to create a scrollbar, to no avail.

Is there an easy method of creating a scroll bar on a text box or am I missing something glaringly obvious.

Welcome to TalkGraphics

Web Designer does not offer this feature. But you can add a scrolling text box to a placeholder object.

Basically you need to find a script (you can do a Google search for scrolling text box) and then add the script to the placeholder. A placeholder is just a rectangle you create, sometimes to a specific size as in the case of a scrolling text box, then you paste the code into the Website Properties > Placeholder > Replace with HTML Code text entry box.

Some scripts have two parts. One of these goes in the <head> portion of your document. In this case, create a new placeholder rectangle, click the yellow name tag icon on the Infobar, and name it <head>. Add the head code to the Placeholder > Replace with HTML Code text entry box.

This topic has come up frequently. First try doing a search for it in this forum. You may save yourself some trouble deciding which script is best.

Hello Drwyd ... is your .xar file version specific? I downloaded and tried to open it with my version of Xtreme Pro 4 but without success. I'm trying to do the same thing as dtiffney and somehow place text into a scroll box so that the viewer can scroll at his/her own reading speed or if necessary, have it scroll automatically (the former is preferrable). I too am a new Web Designer user (version 6) and any help will be very much appreciated.

Earlier in this thread, Drwyd was generous enough to provide an example with HTML code for the Placeholder in Web Properties. I have added to that file and am posting it back up here in case anyone wishes to use it. I have included code to customize the colour of the scroll bar in Windows (the code probably won't be recognized by Macs and will default to the OS colours) because the Windows default may not be complimentary to your site. You can also add an image if you wish (size it accordingly) by putting the tag ...

<center><IMG SRC="location/name_of_image"></center>

... where you want your image. Make sure to insert it after the scroll bar script. I have added <center> tags to the code so the image lands in the middle of the text panel. You can remove those if you want.

Now, I may been redundant with the paragraph code, but I ran into a problem when I didn't repeat all code for each paragraph ... something I'm missing I guess.

The file attached is WD6, I don't seem to be able to save it back to version 5.

Well, after checking the scroll bar code on a few machines, it appears that it only works if Explorer is in Classic Theme mode. Sorry.
