    xdp6 Stabilizing color line

I am working on some monochromatic designs, using a pantone gallery that I have positioned as the color line in the bottom of the screen. I would like to be able to stabilize the line in one spot, so I can try different colors that are in close proximity to each other. However, when I select a color, the color line jumps back to the beginning, and I have to scroll over to find my spot again. It is very time consuming. Is there a way, to scroll to a specific location on the color line, and lock it? Thanks.

    hi

you don't say which program you are using

have you got it set up to automatically create named colors - that would make the colour bar jump back.. I don't know of any way to lock it

    Steve,

I am using Xara Design Pro 6. When changing colors, I used to just do it in the color editor, but now that I am having shirts printed, I have started using the Pantone galleries, to assure more accurate color matching. All I did was select the Pantone line in the Color gallery, and ask it to show in the color line. Quite frustrating. However, thanks for trying to help.

    Hi

some pantone palettes [eg pantone color bridge UP] automatically create named colors - and some do not [eg pantone process coated]

AFAIK this has to do with pantone palettes that are spot colors - which appear as circles on the colour line - as opposed to those which are not and appear as diamonds

does this tie in with your experience?

    Thanks Steve

My first exposure to Pantone colors, I guess I need to do some research, however, I was using the pantone solid uncoated line ( which displayed as circles ), since I was told that it would be best match for printed fabric. I changed to the processed, uncoated line (displayed as diamonds). Now I am able to quickly choose and compare colors that are next to each other. I hope this will be a close match for printing on t-shirts. Thanks for your help!

I know how the program works up to a point [hopefully] - but I'm not a print expert

I think spot colours are the most accurate, but also the most expensive to print - always be guided by your printer is the best advice as to how to chose

Don't forget to switch to 'Simulate Print Colours' to get a better idea of how the printed colours will look [Window > Show Printer Colours > Simulate Print Colours]
