    WD6 Pop up image info for search engines.

    Hi all,

    Been a while since I lasted asked a question.

    I'm looking into why I cant find my images in a search engine and after reading several threads about this here I still cannot seem to get it.

    My site is - www.tobyh.myzen.co.uk and is a wildlife photography site so images (and image quality) is very important.

    I've set this up as thumbnails that then pop-up into the full size image - these may seem large to some but bear with me please. If i right click in firefox and view the image info, the thumbnail shows the associated text that is included with the popup which it has taken from the "Image Caption" in WD6. The location info held there shows it as a number.jpg. I notice that although this Image Caption information is found by search engines, it doesn't recognise it as an image. If i do a general search then my page is found. If I then serach for it as an image then it won't be found. Is there a way round this please?

    After reading other related threads I tried using the "Names" area in WD6 to apply a name using filename="imagename" and when i then do the same right click - Image properties in firefox, the location shows ...Toby%20Houlton%20Photography%20-%20Clouded%20Yellow%20on%20thistle.jpg

    should I be using underscores or no spaces in the filename to avoid the %20 it seems to have put in?

    Even though the filename shows as having been amended in the "location" area, will this be enough to be found by the search engines?

    Sorry for my noddyness, hope this makes sense.

    Thanks for any help

    Hi Toby,

    I'm not an expert on the subject but I think if you added Alt text and Title text to your images (web properties) that could be indexed better by the search engines.

    Thanks Soquili,

    All my images have a Title and Image Caption (Alt text) included - I gave them a small descriptive title and used the Image Caption to add all the shooting info etc for the image. My issue seems to be that even though the information is picked up by the search engines, it's not recognised as an image however I add it in so will not return any results when doing searches for images.

    Thanks though - keep the ideas coming

    *edit* thanks very much for the code excerpt, I think it highlights my issue perfectly. From my side I've added information to all of those images, the problem is why it then isn't included in the final page?

    *Edit again* - just looked into my folders to see what that number png refers to and it's just a black rectangle - my guess is that it's the background colour / image - it's certainly not something I've created as an image - like an imported photo. I've just done something similar using firefox to view the code - I can see the images further down in the code and they all have something similar to -

    <a href="index_htm_files/755.jpg" class="highslide" onmouseover="hs.headingText='Female blackbird on perch'" onclick="return hs.expand(this, { headingText: 'Female blackbird on perch' } )">
    <img class="xr_ap" src="index_htm_files/749.jpg" alt="Image#112 - Blackbird (Turdus merula) - Feathers Birdcare Hide, Sussex - Nikon D300 with Sigma 500mm - 1/160s, f5.6, ISO 640" id="Blackbird:32on:32perch" title="" onmousemove="xr_mo(this,0,event)" style="left: 54px; top: 769px; width: 145px; height: 188px;"/>
    </a>

    The orange text is my title and the green is the Image Caption / Alt Text

    Thanks for your help - still confused though

    Thanks for that DeltaPete. Maybe I haven't correctly named all the images using that method even though I have added an Alt name. I'l do that tonight and leave it a few weeks to see if they then start showing up on searches.

    Any idea if the fact that when I use filename="image name" as it comes out like - Toby%20Houlton%20Photography%20-%20Clouded%20Yellow%20on%20thistle will there be an issue with the %20 that is input instead of a space? Or will an engine just read the text and pickup the key words inside there?

    Thanks for your help.
