Imported photos look awful- WD6

Hi everyone,
I'm new to the forum and WD6, so sorry if this has been asked before but when I import photos to a gallery in WD6, they (the pop-ups) look really poor in comparison to the original photos.
I have read the help section in the software but can't figure out why this is happening.
Originals are jpeg at 1000pix wide, I have set the pop-up size to 1000pix also.Thanks for any help.

What resolution are the images when you are viewing them in WD6? If you select a bitmap the status bar in the lower left corner will give you the resolution. And are you viewing the page at 1:1 (100% Zoom factor)?

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the welcome and the quick reply. The resolution is reported at 901 and the originals are only 72. I am viewing the page at 100%.
There's probably a simple answer but my brain isn't in gear today , thanks again,
