Hello everybody:
I am new to the forum and I want to know how to create "real" looking lineart from a photo. What filter(s) or steps I need to do from a photo to finish like a hand-draw drawing?
Thank you

Hi Beth,
Yes, the boring curves are there to do the boring photo manipulations and stuff like that ;-)
You don't have to multi-boot your machine just to try Gimp, because you can install the win32 port straight away, but still, multi-boot is fun
The effect looks nice.. Here's how to do it
in Gimp without buying expensive filters ..

Well, coming from unix world, gimp has its own
ui legacy. It's a bit strange at first, you need
to remember to right click on the image window to bring up the menu... but after a while, the gui grows on you and you will find it strange when you use other windows program and try some shortcuts you knew would have worked in gimp...
just some of the stumbling blocks we face with any new program, once the hurdle is overcome, you will be able to explore the program fully.

Hi,
Not sure if it is easy to do this in PS, but
it is easy in Gimp, which is a PS clone that
is free of charge. Check out my line-art images
for some example of what can be done in gimp
at http://gug.sunsite.dk/gallery.php?artist=41&page=5
Will try to post a larger version of image
in the General Gallery later.

Check out the mailing lists I mentioned in the
Gallery thread.. particularly the list archives
at gug.sunsite.dk Most people run on win 9X/NT
without much problem..
Here's a larger version of the lineart-from-photo
effect which was posted to http://gug.sunsite.dk/gallery.php?artist=41

Gimp is a program for LINUX. I have WINDOWS ME. Can it work in my system?
Iasm, Gimp looks like it does alot of cool effects. Do you have any experience with how it handles photo adjustments. You know....the boring curve manipulations to colour correct photos.
I will have to try this out when I dual boot (or multiboot) my windows machine. Linux looks interesting.
Saur, you can achieve the same look in photoshop too. Some of the filters that come with it are pretty good, but there are also a few 3rd party filters too. One of my favorites is from Andromeda
http://andromeda.com/
It is now called screens filters. There is another one called cutline which looks pretty good too.
From where can I download the program?
