    Thumbs up LIVESTRONG

My best friend, Jim Wilson, is a 38 year old single dad with two daughters. He has also been diagnosed with stage two terminal brain cancer, Gliamotses Cerebri. His fight is not over. Many of you have probably heard of cancer survivor and cyclist , Lance Armstrong. He started a program called LIVESTRONG(livestrong.org) to encourage others with cancer and their loved ones. They wear a yellow rubber band bracelet with the words "LIVESTRONG" embossed in them.

Attached is my tribute to Jimmy as well as a generic band and the xara files for anyone who would like to use it.

    Nice job!

As someone that lost the most important person in my whole life (my Grandmother, who adopted and raised me) to brain cancer, I can only say that every little bit helps. You likely won't change the destination of the ride that Jimmy is on, but it is possible to make that ride as pleasant and uplifting as possible.

    Take care,

    James

I believe most people have been touched by the affects of cancer in a loved one at some point. It seems to like our family. I will pray for your friend and I think your bracelet is well done.

Cancer is non-discriminating. I feel for you and your friend.

That said, your ellipses are too flat.

I created the ring shape with the 3D Extrude Tool to demonstrate how the ellipse should be drawn.

Glad you said it Gary. Nice ring - and the best way to help the cause.

I appreciate the heads up, but if you do a Google image search for Livestrong band you will see that 90% of the bands are semi-squashed. It is a malleable construct, not a rigid ring. I had softened the edges in my revised version because they look a little pinched on the sides. The extruded version looked like an alloy rather than rubber to me.

Is the gallery now the place for C & C? (Its not nice to should on people)

    Thanks

I think your latest ring example is better than your first, Rock. Its thickness tapers from thicker to thinner on one side, but that’s okay – I’ve seen rings like that. The earlier one had a kink in it that rings don’t have – even if other people draw them that way. Improving designs is a good thing, especially for a good cause, so don’t sweat it. This is known as ‘constructive criticism’. As they say, 'Don't shoot the messenger.'

Thanks, Gents. No harm, no foul.
