in a nutshell - bitmap copy > vertical flip > background rectangle > linear transparency

haven't got a specific tutorial to hand but if you look at pages 8 and 9 of Gary's tutorial here you should get the idea, starting at the third diagram down:

I have tested and have some specific questions.
    1. Where is menu link Create bitmap copy? I have seen short cut CTRL+Shift+C
    2. Should I define object or selection of text?
    3. Where is this Bitmap Size as quoted from instructions:
In the Bitmap Size tabbed section, select 300dpi. Press Create.

    Hi

create bitmap copy is on the arrange menu - ctrl+shift+c should also work

you should get a dialog box and halfway down there are two tabs:

palette options - which is open by default
bitmap size - click on this and from the DPI drop down menu select 300
then click the create button below

a quicker way of doing it [maybe]

    select your text
click ctrl+k [which makes a copy in place - called 'clone' in xara]
with this still selected drag down the top middle handle until the clone copy has been flipped....

select all the objects you wish to group and arrange menu > group [or ctrl+g]

to add to a selection hold shift as you click on the object
