    Default New Named Color Option

I would like an option that automatically names colors when checked.
Colors, Fill start and end etc...
It's a pain manually naming everything.

I thought of a similar idea, but relating to naming objects when making an animation. There should be a button that automatically names all selected objects by giving each a unique name.

If I make a logo out of 25 pieces and need those pieces to individually go here and there in the animation, then I (afaik) have to select each piece and give it a unique name, so that Xara can tween them. It does NOT matter to me WHAT they are named, but they have to have some arbitrary name. It would be nice if the software had the option to give each piece its own, unique name all in one shot.

I can see a usefulness for your idea.

I can't tell you how many times I went to create a named color in Xara, only to see that I forgot to de-select the last object and have now changed the color of an element of the design. Yes, it's a quick fix, but also quickly annoying.

    Take care

    unless I have mis-understood..

you could try setting up a palette of named colours and only using this from the outset

have this palette resident in your template document[s]...

I think what he means is that if he makes a rectangle that is (some particular color of) red, that then that red gets automatically a named color stored to the palette bar. If he then applies a gradient consisting of two more added particular colors, then those are named on the palette as well.

On many projects, the palettes change as one goes along...

    Peace

Anyone care to edit a registry entry to get this functionality?

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Xara\XtremePro\6.1\Opti ons\Attributes\ColourClicksNamed is the key to edit. Make the value 1.

As always: Edit the registry at your own risk.

    Thanks Bill

Does this mean you might add this to your (and Steves) xcellent XaReg?

Anything is possible. No plans at the moment to update XaReg though.

I made the registry change, but can't see any difference in functionality.

Maybe I am missing something... what exactly is that registry entry controlling?

    Thanks

when you click on a local colour [say diamond] on the color bar, a named color [square] is automatically generated on the color bar, and used if you have an active object to color

in case you are unfamiliar with registry changes - you need to have closed down the program to make this change, or it will not take
[and make sure you are in the right version if you have more than one installed ]

If you'd like to encourage Bill to continue updating XaReg (or even thank him for the work he's done so far), there's a Donate button that works very well.
