page back ground full width header

I have made a 956X1000 ping bitmap for a page background that i want to be static and full width. i can see the image in the bitmap gallery when i select it press back ground with page background unlocked and the arrow ion on this layer nothing happpens.

if i double click the bitmap it appears in the pagebackground 50% smaller. i can see it but not in preview. i want the image to fill whole browser what am i doing wrong?

i have seen steve ledges example in XU and 'taken it apart' but still can make mine work can some one help out a confused old dog

Import the bitmap into Xara.

(Optional step) If it is not the right size, scale the bitmap to the size you want it to be. Create a bitmap copy (Arrange menu) at 96dpi.

Delete the bitmap (it is now in the Bitmap Gallery).

Open the Bitmap Gallery, select the new bitmap (the old imported one is in there too) and press Background.

If you need to edit the bitmap once it has been made the background, unlock the background layer in the Page and Layer Gallery.
